Felonious Monk

Hatred requires ignorance.  In the jungles of Southeast Asia, the Sovereign Citizens live in self-imposed exile, consuming no information beyond their own propaganda, viciously attacking and killing those they see as imperialist lackeys of corporations who exploit their land.  Touré, an orphan found and raised by the cell, is their most loyal member and, much to the displeasure of the leader’s insane younger brother, the heir apparent.  Touré's smarts, skills and dedication are unmatched.  But when a faulty explosive device, possibly intentionally, explodes in his face, he lands in a hospital, once again anonymous and alone.

As he feigns amnesia, a lonely nurse reveals the complex, ambiguous world of  ideas, literature, movies, humor, lust and love.  But when the cell rescues him, both his new love and his old leader are killed and Touré is blamed for both deaths.  Despondent and on the run, he is found by a band of mysterious, silly, beer-brewing monks.  Whisked away to a monastery in the mountains, he begins to find peace.  But the authorities continue to hunt him as his former cell plans a large-scale attack to flush him out.  He will have to draw on the violence of his terrorist training and the focus of his monastic practice if he and his new friends hope to end the growing war he helped start.
